Pierre Cardin white and lilac pattern linen futuristic dress, circa 1960s

About the Item

Pierre Cardin created clothing that explored cut, form and silhouette in a manner that was new to the world of fashion. This A-lined dress constructed from a linen mix material represents a moment when art became an element of fashion. The mauve geometric panels that adorn the sleeves and upper back of the dress, represent a play between fields of colour and light also visible in avant-garde art such as cubism. Pierre Cardin’s architectural past is noticeable in the simplicity and precision cutting of this design. And the row of sculptured logo buttons at the front of the dress underlines the “Pop Art” look of the design. This dress is important for its relevance within fashion history. Stylist note Simplicity and timelessness are characteristics of this piece. Worn with flats or heels and minimal jewellery for a modern silhouette.
