About the Item

The founding of the kingdom of Ayuthya by the Prince of U Thong in 1350 also marks the birth of a unified Thailand. The Master is seated in "virasana", his right leg folded over the other, in the attitude of "Taking the Earth to Witness" or "Bhumisparsa-Mudra". Sitting in "virasana", his right leg folded over the other, his left hand-turned towards the sky and leaning against the right heel, he touches the ground with the fingertips of his right hand. He is dressed in the traditional monastic dress, which bare the right shoulder, and which falls into a stole from the left shoulder on the front and back. Very simple, the garment is delicately edged and molds the body in a drape without folds. This stylization, or even this transparency of the robe comes here expressing the exceptional radiance of the body of Buddha. The monastic dress is, with the "folds of beauty" of the neck, prominent chest, fingers of equal length or "Usniça" - cranial protuberance, seat of his supramundain knowledge - one of the many attributes of perfection Granted to the Blessed One according to a canonical list. The headdress is made up of rows of small loops rising to the top of the Usniça, adorned with a flame, symbol of the union between the earth and the sky. It is delimited on the forehead by a thin bandage which releases the ears with the very elongated lobes and the face with the pure oval. The features are exquisitely delicate, adding to the beauty of the Buddha. The arched eyebrow meet at the root of the nose and extend to its extremity. The eyelids, strongly curved and very stretched outwards, are lowered on the internal contemplation. Finally, the fleshy and marked lips comes alive with an imperceptible smile, testimony of his deep serenity.
