Pair of columns of carved pine wood that present the twisted shaft in a helical way (Solomonic) and decorated with interlocks of birds, scrolls, leaves, fruits and birds intermingled and are topped by two Corinthian capitals (with the two levels of leaves under the scrolls more similar to those of oak than to acanthus). Although it was an element used in architecture before, the Solomon column is a more known and habitual piece in the Baroque, especially since its use by Bernini in the canopy of St. Peter's Vatican (completed in 1633). He soon arrived in Spain, being used in Andalusia for the first time circa 1639 and in Madrid in 1636, spreading throughout the peninsula and colonial territories since then. Normally, they were decorated with branches and grape clusters in slight relief. 1900s Turkish Silver Coffee Service with Tray

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Turkish silver coffee service with matching tray; an addition to our silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Turkish silver coffee set consists of a coffee jug, and six cups with saucers, in addition to a matching tray. The coffee jug has a circular baluster shaped form to a circular spreading foot and the cups have a cylindrical rounded form. The surface of the coffee jug is encircled with impressive engraved simplified floral and foliate designs, incorporating a scroll bordered vacant cartouche to either side. The plain upper portion of the coffee jug is encompassed with a band of floral motif ornamentation below a bead decorated border to the rim. Each cup and saucer is ornamented with further engraved foliate decoration to one side. The coffee jug is fitted with a domed hinged cover embellished with engraved decoration reflecting the ornamentation to the body, all above a band of textured decoration. The cover is surmounted with the original cast silver gourd style finial accented with wirework stemmed floral designs. The coffee jug is fitted with an impressive hallmarked cast Turkish silver S-scroll handle accented with scrolling leaf designs to the upper and lower terminals; the cover hinge conjoins the upper portion of the handle with an impressive ornamental scrolling leaf design. Each cup features an impressive cast silver opposing scroll decorated handle accented with an incurved thumbpiece. This exceptional seven piece service sits to the original and matching tray; the tray has an oval shaped form. The tray is encompassed with further engraved decoration reflecting the designs to the coffee jug and incorporating a circular shaped vacant cartouche to the centre.
