Antique 19th C Japanese Satsuma Shizan Vase in Basket Shape Japan Landscape

About the Item

This is a rare and unusual Japanese Satsuma Basket vase from the Meiji Period (1868-1911). It is superbly decorated with a finely detailed Japanese landscape in gold on black background with also Grape vines. The vase is signed on the base. Satsuma-ware derives its name from the region of Satsuma, Japan, where the style of porcelain and ceramic works originated. This beautiful piece is overall in outstanding display condition. The pcitures are a bit slanted, you can check the horizon. Marked base: Shizan/Shisan Condition Overall condition Upper part restored, 1 basket pole is restuck and part of the holder between the poles also. Size 170 x 80mm H x D Period Meiji Periode (1867-1912).
