Chinese Graduated Pair Turquoise Glazed Porcelain Mounted Foo Dogs
About the Item
A very fine and attractive pair of graduated Chinese turquoise glazed dogs of foo figures dating from the first half of the 20th century. The hollow biscuit porcelain figures stand raised on a rectangular base and are looking sideways with open mouths showing teeth each with a raised front paw, one resting on a ball and the other on a puppy dog. Both have finely molded details with black over painted eyes and are richly decorated in turquoise glazes which have pooled around the lower body and within the molded ridges. One has an impressed number to the base along with an indistinct red printed mark and otherwise not marked. The smaller example measures Height 25cm, Width 11cm, Depth 7cm.
Provenance: acquired in the British art market.
