Chinese Kangxi Floral Embossed Lidded Porcelain Jug

About the Item

An unusual Chinese Kangxi period (1662-1722) porcelain lidded and handled jug embossed with flowers and hand painted in the European style. The jug stands raised on a narrow round foot rim with a round bulbous body and funnel shaped top with a bird beak pouring spout with a cut rim. A scroll loop handle is applied to the side and the jug has a domed cover with raised finial. The body of the jug is decorated with embossed outline panels with pate sur pate style floral designs within the white body of the porcelain. The panels are hand painted with simple European floral and insect patterning applied to both sides and the cover with gilded highlights. Underglaze blue patterning is applied around the edges and to the handle. The jug is not marked. Provenance: Acquired in the UK Art Market around 2000. The Jug is fine presentable condition however has a hairline crack to the top element of the handle with a further minor surface hairline where the base of the handle attaches to the body. There are also a few small glaze nibbles around the edge of the cover. Considering age this is a very nice example.
