About the Item
This Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) storage jar is attributed to the kilns of Yunnan province, loosely decorated with iron underglaze in a manner typical of the region. Dated to the 15th/16th century, the small jar is potted to an ovoid form with a gently tapered base, high shoulders and a short, constrained neck. The shoulders are painted with red-brown iron pigments to an abstract floral design of sweeping brushstrokes and "horse eye" spirals. Eroded by time, the glaze has faded to reveal subtle color variance and a soft, matte texture.
