Japanese Contemporary White Blue Porcelain Vase by Master Artist, 5

About the Item

Exceptional Japanese contemporary decorative porcelain vase, hand-painted in white and blue underglaze on a beautifully shaped porcelain body, a signed piece by highly acclaimed award-winning master porcelain artist of the historic Imari-Arita region of Japan. Besides being a master in underglaze hand-painting and polychrome enamel, the artist is admired for his signature techniques in application of gold and platinum to porcelain painting. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. His profile is available upon request. The vase showcases graceful cranes symbolizing longevity, one of the most revered auspicious motifs in traditional Japanese art, set against a mesmerizing pattern conveying snow as the background. cranes have long been considered auspicious animals, and are considered to be long-lived birds is an auspicious pattern that conveys grace and nobility. These contrasting elements create a stunning piece that invites the viewer to approach it to explore its exquisite details. Pine branches decorate the bottom part of this vase. Pines are considered to be a symbol of longevity and remain green despite wind, snow, and harsh cold. "Fired-on gold," his signature style highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum in the hand painting and multiple firing processes to create a stunningly opulent look. After firing the blue underglaze at 1,300 degrees Celsius, the polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees. Finally, gold or platinum is applied and fired at slightly lower temperatures to maximize the luster of the precious metals. To achieve a crisp separation of colors and materials, a single piece may undergo as many as ten firings. This unique hand-painted porcelain vase comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 28 in D 12 in
