Japanese Kutani Vase with Landscape, Showa Period, 1930's, Japan

About the Item

A refined and well painted Kutani porcelain vase with a mountainous landscape scene, Showa Era, circa 1930, Japan. The elegant ovoid vase of fine, translucent porcelain, and painted all over with a continuous mountain landscape scene featuring numerous temple complexes nestled within craggy mountaintops and lush forests. Groups of scholars or pilgrims with their attendants trek along the narrow bridges and paths. The temples and pagodas are outline in a bright gold gilding. The dense forests are enameled in dark green for the pines, with some over enameling of lime green and blue for other trees. The figures are dressed in sumptuous robes with gilt patterning. A key fret band in the traditional Kutani colors of orange red and gold surrounds the base. The short neck decorated with a brocade pattern design in gilt. The wide, everted mouth with a gold gilt rim. The underside with a four character Kutani mark.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Very good condition with minimal wear. No chips, cracks or repairs noted. The painting and gilding vibrant. WIth some sticker residue to the underside.
