About the Item

This is a very beautifully hand painted Chinese porcelain blue and white large Dish or Plate from the Qing, Kangxi period, 1662-1722, dating to Circa 1690. This is a large fairly deep plate measuring 11.15 inches ( about 282 mm) diameter, which makes an impressive display. The plate is finely potted with a carefully cut base rim and a lovely rich glassy white glaze, with a very light blue tinge. The plate is very finely hand painted in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, from the very dark to the very light blue. The central well is decorated with an outdoor scene of three people, comprising one lady (long Eliza) and two attendants, in a courtyard setting by the side of a house with overhanging trees. The level of detail is superb. There is a four section border pattern around the outer rim with geometric sections alternating with different floral sections. The rear has two concentric blue rings having a recognised Kangxi 1662-1722, mark within it. This mark comprises a palette, a brush and the sceptre of longevity, which are the emblems of a literary person, as illustrated in the book " How to identify old Chinese porcelain" by Mrs Willoughby Hodgson in 1907 by Forgotten Books, Fig 30, page 166. This is a rarer mark. Overall, a very beautiful, finely hand painted, large Blue and white Dish / Plate, made in the Kangxi period when Chinese porcelain was at its zenith.

Wear consistent with age and use. Overall Good / Very good for age. One old tight short hairline to rim one under rim edge nibble and a flake and a few small frits. Slight manufacturing fault to base rim. Please see images. NO RESTORATION.
