Large Japanese Imari Porcelain Vase, Meiji Period Circa 1880

About the Item

Large Japanese Imari Porcelain Vase, Meiji Period, Circa 1880 An exceptional Japanese Imari porcelain vase stands tall at an impressive 29 inches in height, dating back to the 1880s. The front panel of this masterpiece showcases a captivating scene of hand-painted enamel pheasants amidst lush green leaves, pretty multicolored flowers, and majestic blue-black tree limbs that elegantly encircle the panel, all set against a pristine white backdrop. Glimmering tendrils of pale mint green leaves descend from above, creating an ethereal ambiance. Intricate two toned 24K gold detailing adorns the motif in well-spaced and carefully positioned areas, adding a touch of opulence to the overall design. As your gaze travels along the vase's body, a symphony of smaller decorative panels unfolds, each brimming with captivating imagery and intricate details in relief. On the back lower smaller panel, a golden stork soars gracefully above gorgeously stylized blue and green waves. The small panel above this depicts a delightful phoenix emerging amidst a profusion of pastel-colored flowers and leaves against a striking rust red background, its majestic tail feathers gracefully curling just below the blue-black scalloped border. Throughout the vase, smaller sections are adorned with thick and striking blue-black or rust red 24K gilt adorned borders, framing scenes of pastel-colored phoenix birds, delicate bright blossoms, and finely rendered foliage against a pristine white canvas. The lower rim boasts a series of enchanting rust red scalloped panels, each adorned with a pale white and translucent stylized lotus flower. This motif is echoed in a more delicate fashion below and just inside the rim of the vase. Imari porcelain, renowned for its colorful and elaborate style, is characterized by a harmonious trio of dominant colors: deep blue, rich rust red, and pristine white, with lavish accents of gold enhancing the entire piece. This vase, a shining example of this celebrated tradition, boasts unparalleled grandeur. Preserving its historical authenticity, the vase displays its original sale sticker on the base. Its generous size allows you to immerse yourself in a world of intricate details and hidden wonders. Delight in the subtle intricacies of charming little birds and picturesque scenery, each stroke of paint a testament to the skill of the master artist. This vase is not merely an exquisite decorative item but a work of art that embodies the spirit of an era, an embodiment of artistic brilliance and cultural heritage.
