Pair of Chinese Foo Dogs Hand Carved Hardstone Good Colour and Detail, Ca 1940

About the Item

These are a very good pair of antique Chinese foo or lion dogs, sometimes called temple lions made of a hardstone, hand carved with fine detail and polished, dating to the mid 20th century, Circa 1940 or possibly earlier. Both pieces are hand carved and polished from a type of hardstone and are heavy for their size. The stone has an overall light green shade with various markings and tones of various shades of brown and green including a very dark green colour. This colouring within the stone makes them very decorative. They are a male and female pair, sitting on rectangular plinths, the female one with a puppy under one paw and the male one with a brocade ball. These pieces are hand carved with good detailed. Both foo dogs are sat on rectangular plinth's. Overall a lovely pair of foo dogs with fine detail and a good colour to the stone.
