About the Item
Described in ancient Chinese texts as the “moon dyed with spring water,” celadon ceramics are prized for their well-proportioned forms and luminous blue-green glazes. This vintage celadon vase was sculpted by artisans of the Mengrai Kilns in Chiangmai, Thailand, a small-scale workshop renowned for their celadon vessels and glazed stonewares, each crafted by hand using traditional methods.
The petite jar has an elegant form, sculpted with a squat, round body and a wide neck flanked by small loop handles. The sides are simply decorated with a lobed design suggestive of a gourd or melon, symbols of family and abundance. A pale green celadon glaze colors its silhouette with sheer translucency and a distinctive, crackled finish. Stamped with maker's marks of the Mengrai Kilns.
