About

The small ceramic case with a dome-shaped lid resting on a small circular stand is for storing incense (kôgô). Beautiful kôgô are used for representational purposes within the tea ceremony, after the incense is placed in the charcoal brazier during the sumitemae ('charcoal arranging'). Taniguchi Ryôzô's works are hold in the Imperial Collection. One of his vases, for instance, was chosen for the flower arrangement for the official meeting between the emperor Hirohito and the prince and princess of wales, Charles and Diana, in year 1986. Dimensions: H 4.8 x D 7.0 cm. Comes with fitted, signed and sealed wooden box.
