Vase in Porcelain of Canton Early, 20th Century
About the Item
This large vase is made of Canton porcelain, manufactured in China in the early 20th century. This vase has double handles on both sides, with animal and gold forms. Resin decorations can be seen, which are white spaces often with floral and vegetal outlines. Here, different "Fô dogs" (also called "shi") are arranged: one pink, one light blue, one dark blue, one green and one brown. The last one dominates the square as it is more imposing, pink with a blue mane, a victorious posture with its front legs resting on the sphere representing world supremacy.
Canton porcelain, also called Cantonese porcelain, is a typical and characteristic style decorated in the city of Guangzhou. Guangzhou is the capital and largest city of Guangdong Province in southern China. In the 18th and 20th centuries, porcelain objects were the largest export produced in China.
