Japanese Red Porcelain ‘Prunus’ Ginger Jar
About the Item
A vintage Japanese ginger jar, hand-glazed and adorned with a ‘prunus’ illustration in vibrant blue. The body of the caddy is glazed in deep red, and atop is delicate design of hand painted pure gold lines
The choice of colours and the meticulous composition of illustrations and graphic details render it a truly beautiful piece. Its barrel shape is unusual and rather rare; the shape resembles that of a Chinese porcelain stool.
The base of the ginger jar features a signature in red; seemingly hand-signed, it is, however, quite difficult to discern. There are two further signatures or maker marks on the lip of the lid and the opening of the caddy.
It is an ideal addition for collectors of Asian porcelain or Mino ware or for those seeking 'Chinoiserie' style ornaments to enhance their home decor
