Provenance:
Property of a Dutch diplomat stationed in Beijing between 1962 and 1964
Dalbergia odorifera, or Chinese rosewood is one of the most valued wood-species in China, and is known as huali (??) or huanghuali (???).
The highest quality furniture from the late Ming and early Qing dynasties was made of this wood and was only intended for the Emperor, nobility, or highest-ranking officials.
