Chinese Qing Dynasty 19th Century Low Kang Dark Brown Lacquered Cabinet

About the Item

A Chinese Qing Dynasty period low kang dark brown lacquer cabinet from the 19th century, with two drawers and brass hardware. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty, this low kang cabinet features a rectangular top with central board, sitting above two drawers fitted with brass pulls. The term kang comes from a platform destined to receive people atop, typically found in Northern China and made of hollow brick, allowing to burn fuel underneath to provide some heat. Furniture around had therefore to be low. Boasting a nicely weathered patina, this dark brown low kang cabinet will make for a great addition to any home, perhaps placed in a living room or bedroom, used as a side table.
