From an important Japanese art collection found on our most recent trip to Japan. This is a Japanese complete antique album of fourteen (14) hand-painted on silk paintings of erotic couples in provocative poses dating to the late Meiji era, circa 1900. Each painting is unique. The artwork is superb. They are complete with original album covers just the way we like to find them. You can enjoy the album or immediately frame the individual master work paintings which are removable. A total of 14 silk paintings are included, each masterfully hand painted on silk. The connected accordion style pages are beautifully presented in an attractive and colorful handmade and hand printed silk bound album. Quality: All works of art are in fine condition with vivid extraordinary color. There are no holes, tears , or repairs. Age: All silk paintings date from the late Meiji period circa 1900. The artist as is normal is anonymous. Most Shunga are a type of ukiyo-e, usually executed in woodblock print format. Paintings on silk, unique works of art, are rarest of all. Shunga art is seldom signed. There are also extant erotic painted hand scrolls which predate the Ukiyo-e movement. Translated literally, the Japanese word Shunga means picture of spring and is a common euphemism for sex.
