About the Item
New finds from the farmer's Kura (traditional style warehouse) in Ibaraki pref., Japan.
This thick, hollowed hardwood tree trunk slab is an unique, wabi sabi wood art piece itself,
but also can be used as a table with table top.
Freestanding both vertically & horizontally.
In that area, something like this is called "Motoguru" - literally, "(cutting) around the bottom".
Motoguru, is left for memories and records of the wood, when logging from the family's own mountain or their garden.
May be the word specific to the neighborhood area, passed down from the ancesters by word of mouth - heard from the former owner.
The inside seemed to be hollowed out before logging, not by human hands after logging.
It makes me smile when I imagine the birds and small animals were living in this.
