Pair of 18th Century Stools with Cowhide Top
About the Item
A pair of rectangular shape stools. The seat is made of woven cowhide framed in mitered mortise and tenon members. The legs are recessed and connected to the seat in elongated bridle joints. The aprons and spandrels are simple and undecorated. A stretcher is added between the legs to strengthen the construction. Some of the original thin lacquer finishes can still be seen. The four corner edges show sign of wear and tear. This pair is from Shanxi and the wood is Yu wood.
