Pair of Chinese bamboo arm chairs with plain flat linden wood seat (linden wood is also called lime tree). Black and burgundy lacquer with beautiful natural age-related patina highlighted by a new clear lacquer finish. Original condition. China 1830-1840.

These chairs from circa 1840 are well made and retain the original split cane woven inset seat mats. The wood is finished in a deep rich red transparent lacquer giving the wood a lustrous finish . They are generous in scale and comfortable and original throughout. The arms are carved in a bamboo pattern and the central splat is decorated with a pierced Chinese linguistic character.
