A Pair of 19th Century Chinese Ming-style Official Hat's Chair
About the Item
A pair of black lacquered Ming-style official hat's chair from Shanxi province. The origin of the name is because the crest rail at the top of the chairs resembles the winged hats of government officials. The slight angle at the top also makes it very comfortable to rest your head on. These chairs are made of a type of Elm wood called "Zi Yumu" or "Zi Elm" which is harder than regular Elm wood. This allows for the use of more slender materials in construction, giving the chairs an extremely streamlined look. The curves on the top rail, armrests, and goosenecks on the front posts of the armrest are beautiful and elegant.
Size of the seat = W57 x D44cm, length from arm to arm = 56cm. Seat height = 51cm, height of armrest from the ground = 71cm. Overall height = 110cm.
