Pair of Early 20th Chinese Ming Style Painted Cabinets

A spectacular pair of early 20th century Chinese lacquered Ming style compound cabinets with painted scenes of figures in a temporal garden landscape. Still vividly colored, the lavish decorations cover the cabinets from top to bottom, complemented by white bronze hardware. Interiors are orange with chrysanthemums painted on interiors doors. Secret compartments exists in lower areas of cabinets. Used to store garments, the compound cabinet stacks a small storage chest for hats or out of-season clothes atop a regular-sized cabinet that stowed everyday garments and bedding. Cabinet depth without hardware is 22" D, hardware protrudes and additional 2" D, overall cabinet depth is 24" D.
