A pair of lacquered wood northern Chinese yoke-back chairs, Guan mao shi Hebei Province, Qing Dynasty, early 18th century Measures: H. 99.5 x W. 61 x D. 49 cm ?The back splats of the chairs, with rattan seating, are decorated with floral scrolls shaped like a ruyi-motive, a symbol meaning ‘in harmony with heart’s wishes’.
