Mandalay Period Burmese Gilt Lacquer Offering Vessel, Hsun-Ok, circa 1900

$3,600

About

A resplendent Burmese Mandalay period offering vessel, called a hsun-ok, early 20th century. The shape is reminiscent of a stupa, a Buddhist architectural monument honouring a sacred site. Crafted from bamboo, overlaid with lacquer, gilt, and embellished with glass "jewels", this vessel would have been used to carry offerings to the temple in honour of the Buddha. The interior of the vessel lacquered a lovely orange.
