Antique Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Brush Geometric Patterns Brush Pot GOTO

About the Item

A Japanese Cloisonne enamel over gilt copper brush pot. Circa: late 19th century. The cylindrical form pot is adorned with polychrome floral, foliage and geometric motifs made in the Cloisonne technique. Unmarked. Goto was a skilled Meiji-era cloisonné artist whose refined wirework and delicate motifs exemplify the artistry of Japan’s golden age of enamel production. Though less widely known than his imperial counterparts, his work reveals a masterful command of form, color, and balance—often featuring elegant floral or avian themes rendered with precision and grace. Today, pieces by Goto can be found in esteemed collections, including museum holdings, where they are celebrated for their craftsmanship and contribution to the broader narrative of Japanese decorative arts.
