A small vintage bronze cast sculpture from the mid 20th century depicting a praying Buddhist monk sitting on a base and holding an offering bowl. Created with the traditional technique of the lost-wax (à la cire perdue) which allows for great precision and finesse in the details, this vintage bronze statue depicts a praying Buddhist monk sitting on a base, preciously holding an offering bowl. Having placed the bowl on his left hand, the monk is protecting the content with his right one. He is peacefully looking upwards, in a prayerful attitude. He is dressed with a thin robe uncovering his right shoulder, the fabric falling delicately on his left side. He is sitting on a base in a single lotus position. 19th century Burmese bronze temple bell with original carved hardwood stand, painted iron hanging bracket, and striker. This rare large scale cast bronze bell has a splendid sculptural and spiritual presence. The bell has a long inscription on the upper part. The offering of a bronze bell to a monastery or temple was considered second only to the offering of a Buddha image as an act of merit (kutho). Such bells were cast using the lost wax (cire perdue) method.
