Enchanting Japanese Bronze Owl Okimono

About the Item

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this most enchanting Meiji Period (1868-1912), bronze okimono depicting a long eared owl upon a rootwood branch, the unknown artist has captured the majestic bird in very fine lifelike detail, the featherwork particularly well carved. The delightful little owl rests upon a highly polished gnarled wood base, its large multi coloured eyes conrast against the bronze body, the birds long ears pricked up and fully alert to its suroundings. A really charming and increasingly rare little okimono that would bring great joy to your household, or as a fine addition to your existing Japanese metalwork or okimono collection. Literature : Owls are highly revered in Japanese culture, they are seen as symbols of wisdom and fortune, their Japanese name "Fukuro" literally means without hardship/ good luck .
