Japanese bronze vase, by Akichika, with dragonfly seal, Japan Meiji era

About the Item

An extraordinary baluster-shaped bronze vase with multiple patinas carved with a lizard watching a frog. The details are finely chased and the lizard's eyes are gilded. Signed "Akichika" on the underside with an impressed "dragonfly" seal. Akichika appears to have worked as a metalsmith for the Maruki company. Japan, late 19th century.
