About
A very decorative pair antique Japanese Meiji period Rooster and Dragon panel cloisonné vases dating from the latter 19th or early 20th century. These striking vases stand on a narrow rounded foot with rounded baluster shaped bodies and narrow trumpet shaped neck. The body of the vases are decorated with four shield shaped panels two decorated with dragons and two with roosters both in bright colors on speckled green and pink grounds. the upper body is decorated with decorative banding containing geometric patterning, floral patterns and other designs all in brightly colored enamels. The lower body is decorated in solid custard yellow color with small formal decorative bands around the foot and top of the vases. The inner vases and bases are decorated with a mottled green enamels. The vases are not marked.
One vase has a small bruise to the neck and to the turquoise colored band with some minor enamel losses. The vases display well and are well and brightly decorated examples.
