Pair of Southeast Asian Rain Drums in Bronze

About the Item

A fine pair of Southeast Asian round rain drums, sometimes called Frog or Kha drums as well, cast in patinated bronze with small stylized frogs applied to the border of the tympanum or top, with a central star decoration surrounded by concentric geometric circles. They are known for both the fertility images depicted in their design and for the unique sound they make when struck by the heavy monsoon rains of Southeast Asia. The drum shapes replicate huge bronze artifacts manufactured over thousands of years by the Dong-son civilization in Southeast Asia. They probably date to the late 20th century and are in very good condition, with some surface verdigris and oxidation from exterior use. Dimensions: Approximately 21 in H x 24 in diameter.
