About the Item

Thai Khmer Bronze Gilt Singha Guardian Lion Sculpture, Mid-20th Century An exquisite Thai–Khmer bronze Singha guardian lion, also referred to in the West as a Foo Dog, richly decorated with parcel-gilt accents over a naturally aged verdigris patina. Standing at 7.75 inches tall, this finely cast piece embodies the strength, protection, and prosperity associated with traditional temple guardian lions. An impressive bronze Singha guardian lion sculpture, richly finished in gold parcel-gilt with a naturally aged verdigris patina. This piece brings an exotic yet timeless accent to interiors. Modeled after Khmer temple lions of the Angkor period, the sculpture exudes both strength and elegance. A striking decorative object, perfect for display on a console, bookshelf, or entryway. Its combination of aged bronze and gilded highlights makes it versatile in both traditional and contemporary settings. In Southeast Asian tradition, the Singha lion symbolizes protection, courage, and prosperity, often placed at temple entrances as guardians warding off evil. Modeled after Khmer temple guardians from the Angkor period (10th century, Banteay Srei style), the Singha lion was traditionally placed at temple entrances to ward off evil and protect sacred spaces. The lion’s expressive features, sculptural details, and golden highlights create a striking contrast against the weathered green surface, enhancing its regal and protective presence.
