About the Item
Japan, an elegant and fine seated Kanon Maitreya Guan Yin in a pensive pose, a superb work of art heavily hand cast in solid copper with a fine chocolate patina.
An ideal indoor or garden candidate.
The peaceful and youthful Kanon with a simple crown and sublime down cast eyes and his right leg crossed over his left and fingers of right hand gently approaching his right cheek in a classic pensive pose in quietude and seated atop a cylindrical lotus leaf base.
Dimensions: 12 inches tall to top of mandorla and 6.5 inches depth.
Original natural smooth chocolate patina - just the way we like to find them.

Maitreya is a bodhisattva kanon who in the Buddhist tradition is to appear on earth, achieve enlightenment and who will be the successor to the historic Sakymuni Buddha. This combination of posture and pose “pensive pose” is a trans-eastern iconography popular and originating from ancient China and Korea, 6th-7th centuries. Kanon is a Japanese name for Guanyin, an East Asian bodhisattva and spiritual figure associated with mercy and compassion.
