Japanese Antique Painted Scroll Two Lucky Old Friends

About the Item

Two lucky old friends. A very fine Japanese antique hand-painted paper scroll of Ebisu and Daikoko , two old friends and two of Japan's seven lucky gods signifying prosperity, good business, and patron of fishermen, Meiji period (1868-1912). Hand painting in lively colors with great details. , signed. Artist Inscription: Yomenen Gorgeous silk brocade. History: Ebusu is the god of prosperity and wealth in business, and of abundance in crops, cereals and food in general; the patron of fishermen and therefore is represented with fishermen's costumes such as a typical hat, a fishing rod in his right hand and a fish. Daikoko is the god of commerce and prosperity. There are other characteristics which have also been attributed to him, such as being the patron of cooks, farmers, bankers, and protector of crops. He is usually depicted with a bag full of valuable objects. Japan, attractive composition with narrow width ideal for smaller wall spaces. Hand painted. Handsome decorative composition.
