Pair of Japanese Edo Six Panel Screens Attributed Kano Toshun

About the Item

Intriguing pair of 18th century Japanese Edo period six-panel screens of the four accomplishments attributed to Kano Toshun (1747-1797). The colorful Kano school screens are each signed (hitsu) from the brush of Toshun. The large screens feature vivid ink and natural pigment colors on mulberry paper with gold flecks throughout. Each painting is set in a black lacquered wood frame with a brown silk brocade border. Beautifully depicted "kinki shoga" or elegant pastimes by Chinese scholar or literati: qin, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Sold as a pair. The screens are unrestored in as-found condition with an aged, faded patina.
