Set of Four Qing Dynasty Elmwood Open Fretwork Panels with Delicate Carvings
About the Item
A set of four Chinese Qing Dynasty period large carved elm wood interior door panels from the late 19th century, with fretwork design, openwork and figures in landscape scenes carved in low relief. Created in China during the Qing Dynasty in the later years of the 19th century, each of this set of four of large architectural interior door panels captures our attention with its carefully organized arrangement of fretwork motifs topped by an arabesque of openwork foliage. The fretwork is carved with finesse in order to create typical Chinese square patterns that let the light pass through. The panels showcase delicate horizontal cartouches in their mid-section carved in low-relief with scenes depicting Chinese figures set inside a lovely landscape. The ensemble is completed by simple wooden panels at the bottom. In the back, these lower panels are strengthened by horizontal stretchers. Boasting a nice dark brown varnished patina, this set of four Qing Dynasty period Chinese interior door panels circa 1880 will make for a great decorative addition to any home! They could be placed close to a wall or used as a screen, keeping in mind that the Chinese considered screens as objects of contemplation and a source of spiritual and creative inspiration. They were used to protect from drafts, to provide a sense of privacy or to simply partition a room. The width mentioned is for the four pieces put together, each panel is approximately 21" W x 2"D x 89"H.

Qing Dynasty Painting of a Royalty Related Couple with Dragon Motifs
Located in Yonkers, NY
A Chinese late Qing Dynasty period framed painting from the early 20th century of a royalty related couple with dragon motifs painted on a linen canvas. Created in China during the late Qing Dynasty in the early years of the 20th century, this custom framed painting depicts a couple wearing either a red (a symbol of luck in China) or green robe. The depiction of dragons relates them to the Imperial family, but having four claws and not five as codified, the couple is likely part of the royal family, not the Imperial couple themselves. Accented with typical motifs such as bats, flaming pearls and rain-filled clouds, the robes are filled with symbols. Wearing ornate headdresses, the couple is sitting on elegant chairs. Set inside custom made frames, the paintings show great signs of age. While the entire piece measures 40.5"W x 1"D x 53"H, the painting itself is 36.5"W x 49". With its vivid colors and interesting subject, this Chinese Qing Dynasty painting...

Korean Four Panel Screen of Hunting Scene Joseon Dynasty
Located in Atlanta, GA
A Korean four-panel folding screen circa 1830s, from the late Joseon Dynasty. The painting depicts a vivid hunting scene on four vertical scroll panels mounted with brocade borders. The four panels are related to each other in narrative but not in an absolutely continuous fashion, therefore they could be viewed individually and independently, which was not uncommon in the screen paintings as they are meant to be folded and unfolded as needed. The pictures show a general on the far left panel seated on a low platform bed...
