About the Item

Original woodblock work by Sanzo Wuda depicting the beautiful life in the traditional Japanese countryside calm and easy, framed and signed. Dimension: Image 13 1/2" x 10" : with frame 18 1/4" x 15 1/4" Artist: Sanzo Wuda 1883-1968 Sanzo was born in Hyogo Prefecture, moving to Fukuoka with his family at age 13, and moved again to Tokyo at age 16 with the intention of becoming a painter. In Tokyo, Sanzo studied under Kuroda Seiki both privately and at the Tokyo School of Arts and was a member of the Hakubakai artists' society, with whom he exhibited his works. Sanzo was sent to France by the Ministry of Education to study art in 1909. He stayed in Europe until 1914, returning to Japan in 1915 after a year-long stay in Burma (now Myanmar) studying the arts of those cultures.

BIOGRAPHY: Common name: Genpachi (Genpachiro); go Shinmyo (from 1707), Baio (from 1707), Hogetsudo (from Genbun era, 1736-41), Tanchosai and Bunkaku (both from Enkyo era [?], 1744-8). Ukiyo-e painter, print artist and innovative print publisher, also author and illustrator early in his career. Studied haikai poetry under Tachiba (Shogetsudo) Fukaku (Sen'o, 1662-1753). Said to have been influenced by the work of Moronobu. and Kiyonobu., and his earliest dated work is a copy of Kiyonobu I's Illustrated Book of Courtesans of 1700. published by Kurihara Choemon in the eighth month of 170a.
