Kiyoshi Saito Signed Limited Edition Japanese Woodblock Print Tea House, 1965

About the Item

A beautifully designed and composed woodblock print by famed Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print, which is simply titled "Tea House" features strong colors, bold wood grain (with beautiful contrast between the tea house and the Japanese zen rock garden in the foreground), and an intricate balanced, complex design. The print is signed in black ink and stamped/sealed in red within the image, titled, dated (1965), and numbered (23/100) in pencil by the artist in the lower margin. Saito's "self-carved self printed Kiyoshi Saito" paper seal is attached to the frame backing. A relatively rare and hard-to-find work. Would be a great addition to any modern Japanese or Asian print collection or eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting. Professionally framed and matted with a silk mat. Frame dimensions: 23" high, 27.75" wide, 1.5" deep Viewable image: 16" high, 21.25" wide Saito's work has been exhibited extensively and can be found in galleries and museums throughout the world including: Achenbach Foundation, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco Art Institute of Chicago Cincinnati Art Museum Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art Kanagawa Prefectural Museum Los Angeles County Museum of Art Miami Art Museum Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Modern Art, New York City National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo New York Public Library Philadelphia Museum of Art
