About the Item
A wonderfully composed, beautiful image by renowned Japanese artist/printmaker Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870 - 1949) titled "Zojo-ji Temple in Snow (Zojo-ji no yuki)" features a tranquil village nighttime scene. Villagers make their way home in the heavily falling snow with gathered snow-filled trees to the left and right of the image and the large red-painted wooden temple in the background. A striking and gorgeous image.
The print is signed by Koitsu in blank ink and with his red seal/stamp at the lower right corner.
Tsuchiya Koitsu was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan. He was a very important artist in the Shin-Hanga ("new prints" movement in early 20th-century Japan, during the Taishō and Shōwa periods, that revitalized the traditional ukiyo-e art rooted in the Edo and Meiji periods.
One of Koitsu's most coveted works. A lovely image. Would be a great addition to any Japanese or Asian art collection or make for an eye-catching stand-alone accent artwork in about any setting.
