11th century West Tibetan bronze bodhisattva with Silver Inlays.

About the Item

11th century West Tibetan bronze bodhisattva with Silver Inlays-  I present to you a remarkable sculpture from Western Tibet that brings much more of a Western influence to it than the vast majority of Buddhist sculptures. you can almost feel the influence going all the way back to Gandara and to the Grecian and Roman statues that influence them. the casting process oh, the finishing, the kind of bronze used, and the proportions of the body and face, are all completely different than those used in almost all the other Buddhas on my website. It also happens to be a masterpiece. The missing lower arms and hands do not take away from the beauty of the figure whatsoever.  the arms are not broken off, as they appear to have been separately cast and then attached after the statue was cast. This would have been the only way to have made the Statue originally as it is solid cast and there would have been no way to have made the long thin arms as part of an original mold 1000 years ago. So the arms have detached over a thousand years, not broken off. The silver inlays in the eyes and the forehead slightly shine to great effect-He has real charisma. Spend time looking at the pictures. One of my all-time favorites out of almost 10,000 Buddhas collected, owned, or sold.

I am in the process of listing the very last of my personal items that have previously and not been available for sale up until this point. I bought many of them for strong prices as I bought them as a collector who is passionate about Buddhist and Hindu sculpture, and who only buys what I truly love myself. I have been collecting for more than 35 years now, as my collecting tracks alongside my Buddhist Meditation and Buddhist practice. • Tibetan Buddhist Deity Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva Cast Bronze Sculpture
    Located in North Hollywood, CA
A metal cast bronze finish on brass in beautiful posture figure of Tibetan Buddhist Padmapani Deity Avalokiteshvara Beautiful Asian sculpture after the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Padmapani, bearer of the lotus) Dimensions: Height : 8.5 inches Width : 4 inches Depth : 2.75.inches. Asia, Nepal circa 1950's. "The bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara is the Buddhist embodiment of compassion. He is often portrayed as an elegant and gracious youth. The cult of Avalokiteshvara worship originated in India and spread across Asia, along with other Buddhist philosophies and practices. In some places Avalokiteshvara eclipses the Buddha in importance. Buddhist rulers, such as Prince Shotoku in Japan and the Dalai Lama in Tibet, have been seen as incarnations of this saviour. In Nepal, Buddhism flourished alongside Hinduism long after the religion had lost favour in India. Although the kings of the Early Malla period who ruled the Kathmandu Valley were Hindu, some of the greatest artistic achievements of the age were Buddhist. This gilt copper figure...

  • Over Life-Size Tibetan Gilt Bronze Arm of a Bodhisattva, Late 19th Century
    Located in Austin, TX
An impressive larger than life-size cast and gilt bronze left hand and arm of a bodhisattva, late 19th century or earlier, Tibet. The over-sized arm and hand of graceful proportions. The arm tapering down to a slender wrist embellished with a simple bracelet hiding the join between the hand and arm. The hand and arm richly gilt. The join to the elbow visible and exposed. The hand heavily cast, with nice detail to the fingernails and cuticles. The palm with simple incised lines. The hand, with the pointer and pinky fingers raised, and the middle and ring finger folded down touching the thumb, performs the gesture known as karana mudra, the gesture of dispelling evil. (Here in Texas we refer to this gesture as "Hook'em Horns!") Karana mudra is often associated with Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion, known in Tibet as Chenrezig, and in China as Guanyin. The hand and arm would originally have been part of a much larger sculpture. Unfortunately many Tibetan Buddhist sculptures...
