Late 19th century Pair of Glazed Porcelain Foo Dogs

About the Item

Extraordinary pair of fine glazed porcelain Foo dogs came to us out of an estate here in Savannah, Georgia, belonging to an old general that long ago brought them from Thailand. Used to guard the entryway to temples and homes of the very rich, they depict the guardian lions of the Far East. Always in pairs to represent classical Feng Shui yin and yang, they were symbols of prosperity and success. Features include incredible detail and expression with beautiful celadon color.
