This antique palm leaf manuscript book from 19th-century Burma (Myanmar) is a rare and exceptional artifact of Buddhist scholarship and devotion. Measuring 22.2 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 6.2 cm deep, with a weight of 3.59 kgs, it is composed of many palm leaf pages bound between two wooden covers and elegantly gilded with 24 krt. gold. Known as a Parabaik, the manuscript preserves sacred texts written in the Pali language, the ancient liturgical language of Theravāda Buddhism, used to transmit the teachings of the Buddha across generations.
Manuscripts like this were treasured in monasteries for their spiritual, cultural, and educational significance.
