Chinese Antique Large Seated Stone Buddha Guan Yin with Inscription

About the Item

This beautiful Buddha sculpture will bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office, sacred space, or garden This older hand-carved sculpture with inscription comes from a fifty year old Chinese antique stone collection formed in the 1970s-1980s. We are offering the last works from this one of a kind group. China, a large scale fine old hand-carved limestone effigy of a seated Buddha or Bodhisattva Guanyin carved in relief against an intricately incised background mandorla including ten attendants or disciples with flames on edge. The Buddha is seated a top an angular pedestal with guardian foo dogs at the sides. It is not uncommon to find older Chinese stone Buddhist sculptures missing one or both of the original, separately carved hands from age and frequent movement. A rarely found inscription beneath likely tells of a family dedication and history as it was likely in a private shrine or special Buddhist garden. On reverse we find an unusually prolific incising of more Buddhist attendants covering the entirety. This work of art in all its splendor would make a fine indoor or garden presentation and choice. Hand-carved. Inscribed. Only one. Dimensions: 26 inches high and 15.5 inches wide Provenance: Coming from an old Beijing collection assembled in the 1970s-1980s.
