About the Item
In Indian Buddhism, Avalokiteshvara is a male Bodhisattva, however in Chinese Buddhism he takes the form of the female Bodhisattva, Guanyin - ‘The One Who Hears the Cries of the World’, also known as The 'Goddess of Compassion'.
Shown here in a loosely draped robe, her serene face exuding a sense of enlightened contemplation, seated in a meditative pose with hands folded in Dyana Mudra while holding a vase containing the Elixir of Compassion together with another ritualistic element.
