About the Item
A unique, vintage 20th century French reinterpretation of Classical Greek sculpture portraying the “Father of History” Herodotus (5th century BCE) in hand-sculpted terracotta on a carved, stone base. From a technical perspective the artist has used the malleable clay to their advantage to capture the curls of his hair and thickness of his beard, instinctively leaning the face ever so slightly to the right for emotional effect, frozen in time.
