For your special garden spot - rare pair blue gilt Moon Gazing Rabbits from Japan! This is a harder to find matching pair (2) of solid and finely cast effigies of tall "moon gazing" garden rabbits, usagi. They were sourced from a large American garden collection this past year. They each measure 6 inches tall. Japanese, one signed with label attached "made in Japan." These charming older ones still possess old blue gilt verdigris finishes that originally came from a Japanese maker. They are heavily cast and possess a hard to find handsome used patina. They would surely "pop" out in splendid fashion in your favorite garden spot! Dimensions: 6 inches tall and 3 inches length Quality: Finely cast hair lines, tale, neck ornament ( a bell) and other details; good condition with an attractive old gilt and tan patina and with traces of original verdigris Lifetime guarantee of authenticity. Moon Gazing Rabbit The Moon rabbit or Moon hare usagi is a mythical figure in Far Eastern folklore. This folklore originated in China and then spread to other Asian cultures. It is thought to live on the Moon that identify the hare with the moon's dark markings. The rabbit is seen as pounding with a mortar and pestle - pounding the elixir of life for consumption and show hand production of mochi rice cakes. In Japanese and Korea the rabbit is pounding thede ingredients for mochi rice cakes.
