Historic Japanese five elements garden stone Artifact Important ancient stone relic from the Meiji Era some 150 years ago And it's a beautiful and unique way to accent your indoor or outdoor garden space with this rare architectural treasure from Japan. This ancient Buddhist garden stone represents the Godai (Japanese philosophy) of five earthly elements: earth, wood, water, fire, and wind in Buddhism. Japan, a fine and amazing surviving Gorinto or tiered Stupa sculpted from a gray brown igneous stone, dating to the mid 19th century. This is an architectural gem, conversational delight for displaying indoors or outdoors in your favorite place. It measures 9 inches tall and 3 inches wide Gorinto Stupa is a uniquely Japanese invention depicting five geometric forms, which correspond (from bottom) to top: earth, water, fire, wind, and ethereal space. The Japanese Shingon sect of esoteric Buddhism views the Gorinto as a symbol of DaiNichi Buddha, who, underlying all things, manifests himself in the five elements making up the universe. Provenance: old Southern Japanese garden collection This scarce artifact hand carved and with good weathered patina would make an ideal conversational choice for any intimate indoor or outdoor installation.
