From our reecent Japanese Acquisitions Travels First we have seen Japanese complete antique archery set including the 64 inch bow, bamboo quiver with arrows, and original old box full of accoutrements: hand gloves, string, presentation banner, and more. Total 11 pieces. Includes an elusive antique archery Himo-ire -woven bamboo Kyudo bow string holder- . A rare find and a rare collecting opportunity. Patina and use appropriate to their age and historical importance. Age: Taisho period, early 20th century Condition: Fine original condition with wear due to appropriate age Dimensions: Bow is 64 inches long and quiver 38 inches long Provenance: old Japanese samurai collection found in Otsu Japan History: Antique Japanese bows are regarded as talismans against evil and were for centuries used by samurai warriors as their primary weapon of choice. Smaller length bow examples like this were used to train boys in preparation for eventual war time call of duty. See photo of a samurai warrior.
