About the Item

Here's a rare treasure from Japan and an unusual find- plus an excellent candidate to accent your indoor or outdoor garden space. This is a larger than unusual vintage bronze heavily hand cast temple bell complete featuring Classic motifs of an impressive dragon finial with high relief features on all sides of the bell. This bell was sourced from an old Southern Japan collection and were one of a small group of these rare bells de-accessioned by a Southern Japanese temple Community. It displays a fine dark old patina and is accompanied by a useful old rope and suspension hook as shown. It also comes complete with a wood striker- and emits a vibrant and pleasant resonating sound when struck- guaranteed to please you! These bells were often commissioned by wealthy families and donated as sacred gifts to temples and shrines on behalf of their family or in honor of a special family member. They may have also been used for utilitarian purposes such as summoning family members in private homes. This bell possesses a beautiful original old patina which supports and highlights its generations old temple life. Dimensions: Large with suspension rope it is 22 inches tall from top of hook to the bell's bottom and 5 inches diameter; the bell is 9 inches high. Notice the original authentic patina inside the bottom appropriate to its age. Tone: When gently struck it gives a nice ring.
